Extreme winter weather once again caused multiple US ultramarathons to be canceled or postponed this weekend. Please refer to the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar for updated dates. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check in on race results from Utah, Washington, California and Georgia. Arches Ultra
We lead things off in Moab, Utah, for the ninth running of the Arches Ultra 50k and 50-mile ultramarathons. There were 238 runners who completed Saturday’s 50k race, paced by men’s winner and 2025 Ultra Runner of the Year runner-up, Caleb Olson. Olson clocked a time of 3:34:22 on his way to winning the race for the second time in three years. Second-place finisher Gavin Prior pushed Olson to the very end, crossing the line less than a minute back in 3:35:17. Ian Stuart (4:12:00) came in third. Top honors in the women’s 50k event went to Genevieve Harrison in 4:54:13. Harrison placed ninth overall. Kayla Rhodes finished F2 in 5:13:04. Rebecca Peacock (5:31:23) snagged the final women’s podium spot in third.

Winter Deception Pass 50K
Our second stop takes us to Deception Pass State Park in Oak Harbor, Washington, for the Winter Deception Pass 50K. In the women’s contest, Sylvie Corwin led wire-to-wire to take home the win in 4:38:52. Corwin finished seventh overall. Katie Laco was the second female finisher in 5:17:51. Ruth Curtis (5:36:32) crossed the line in third. Zachary Szablewski cruised to victory in the men’s race, breaking the tape in a time of 4:01:47. Weiheng Qian (4:16:28) placed second and Oliver Cohen (4:30:58) came in third. In total, 106 of the 123 starters completed this year’s event.

Sean O’Brien
Heading down the Pacific Coast to California’s Malibu Creek State Park, we check in on the Sean O’Brien Trail Races (100k, 50-mile and 50k events). Saturday’s 100k race saw 84 runners complete the course, led by men’s winner Dmitri Journist in 11:04:32. Dan Friedman ran to a second-place finish in 11:26:08. Chris Ellefson (11:41:13) completed the men’s podium in third. On the women’s side, Charlotte Saunders earned the victory. Saunders broke the tape in 12:04:33 and placed fifth overall. Marie VanZandt was the second female and seventh overall finisher in 12:21:41. Jaclyn Foroughi (12:31:43) finished F3 and tenth overall.

Dark Anchor
Our final stop takes us southeast to Jekyll Island, Georgia, for the Dark Anchor 34-hour fixed-time race. A total of 181 runners logged an ultramarathon distance at this year’s event, including the top three women, who swept the overall podium. First place overall went to Rebecca Joyner, who covered 129 miles to set a new female course record. Liane Jennings finished second overall with 117 miles, while Melissa Keefe rounded out the podium in third with 111 miles. On the men’s side, Matthew Lapaglia completed the most laps, totaling 111 miles over 34 hours and tying for third overall. Tian Chang finished M2 and tied for sixth overall with 105 miles. Dozens of runners tied for eighth overall with 102 total miles.
