Ultra Weekend Recap — April 12, 2026

The second weekend of April featured 57 races on UltraRunning Magazine’s North American race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check in on race results from Wisconsin, Oregon, Minnesota, and California. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Mad City Ultras

The 2026 Mad City Ultras (a new addition to UltraRunning Magazine’s list of Old School Ultras) hosted this year’s USATF 100k National Road Championships, along with a 50k event. Participants competed on a 10k loop course along the shore of Lake Wingra in Madison, Wisconsin. In the men’s 100k, Brogan Austin ran the second-fastest course time ever to win the national title in 6:34:01. Phil Young (6:45:23) finished second, with Anthony Fagundes close behind in third (6:47:54).

In the women’s race, Sarah Morrison claimed the 100k national title in a new course record of 7:17:01. She shaved more than nine minutes off Camille Herron’s previous mark and placed eighth overall. Allison Mercer finished second in 7:30:52, the third-fastest time in Mad City Ultras history, and placed ninth overall. Amber Arvidson (8:00:53) rounded out the podium in third.

Gorge Waterfalls

Our next stop takes us to the Pacific Northwest and the cascading waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge for the scenic and competitive Gorge Waterfalls 100k and 50k ultramarathons. Saturday’s 100k event featured a host of familiar names on the out-and-back course, with Lotti Brinks taking the win in the women’s race. Brinks’ time of 9:06:23 shattered the previous course record by more than eight minutes and marked her second Gorge 100k victory in the past three years. She placed fifth overall. Liz Hogan earned a second place finish in 9:58:33. Erin Moyer took home F3 honors in 10:05:15.

In the men’s race, Jeshurun Small ran the third-fastest course time to claim the win in 8:07:29. Drew Holmgren finished second in 8:22:11, while Rob King (8:44:19) rounded out the podium in third.

Zumbro Endurance Run

The 17th running of the Zumbro Endurance Run kicked off Friday in Southeastern Minnesota’s Bluff Country. This year’s event featured three ultramarathon distances: 100 miles, 50 miles, and 34 miles. In the 100-miler, runners had 34 hours to complete six 17-mile loops totaling 13,500 feet of elevation gain and loss. Top honors in the women’s race went to Anna Twinem in 26:33:59. Maria Oostra (29:45:29) finished second, while Angela Salgado (32:33:03) took third.

On the men’s side, Korey Konietzki completed his six laps the fastest, earning the win in 22:07:23. Joseph Barnes placed second in 22:20:37, and Jimmy Ruby (23:16:38) finished third.

Anna Grace Tiede Hottinger won the open non-binary division in 26:39:23.

Lake Sonoma

Our last stop takes us to Healdsburg, California for the beautiful Lake Sonoma 100k and 50k. A total of 144 runners lined up at the start of Saturday’s 100k, aiming to finish under 19 hours to earn a qualifier for the 2027 Western States Endurance Run. In the men’s race, Ryan Sullivan took control early and never looked back, winning in dominant fashion in 8:36:09. Nick Reshetnikov finished second (M2) and third overall in 10:28:48, while Kevin Walker claimed the final podium spot, placing fifth overall in 10:43:34.

On the women’s side, Fiona Pascal was victorious in 10:13:24, finishing second overall. Emily Hawgood ran to a second-place finish and took fourth overall in 10:31:06, while Audrey Lawrence placed third and ninth overall in 11:51:34.

  • Lily Berwanger (5:07:45)

  • Robbie Simpson (3:39:39)
