This past week the team here at UltraRunning Magazine attended the Winter Outdoor retailer trade show in Salt Lake City, UT. For Running, the winter event is not quite as inclusive as the summer event, but there were still some great new products to be looked at along with revisions for the Summer season.
Here were a few highlights.
Hoka One One Speedgoat
Hoka partnered with Karl Meltzer to develop a shoe of his own. They used the Rapa Nui as a base and added (or removed from there). It offers a vibram outsole with 5 mm lugs (most in their line), so it should have great traction on the trails. One interesting design concept is the side cuts on the outsole which allows it to flex a bit when you are on uneven terrain.
The Speedgoat will be available Fall of 2015
Smartwool all weather training line
Everyone is about merino wool these day. For Fall of 2015 SmartWool has a new PHD Light line which replaces their ulta light line. The pieces are merino/polyester blend. The blend allows you to vent as you become warmer but still keep you nice and toasty when your exertion levels reduce.
GU
GU has completely rebranded their entire line. New packaging and logo will be rolling out this spring. The packaging is much cleaner and more concise than their current packaging. It’s easy to see recognize if a particular GU packet is caffinated or not and what flavor it is your grabbing.
