A new course record at a Western States Golden Ticket race in Arizona, a World Record-breaking backyard ultra in Tennessee, a 50k in Georgia and more highlight our Ultra Weekend Recap for our final weekend of racing in October.

Three runners broke 13 hours at the 21st Javelina Jundred in Fountain Hills, Arizona, with Boulder, Colorado’s Jon Rea taking the commanding win and establishing a new course record in the process with a time of 12 hours, 43 minutes and 10 seconds. This is his third Golden Ticket in as many years and the second in a row at this event. Second place went to Seattle’s Blake Slattengren, who was making his 100-mile debut, in 12 hours, 58 minutes and 7 seconds. Third place was secured by Ryan Montgomery out of Wanship, Utah, in 12 hours, 59 minutes and 6 seconds. Bend, Oregon’s Heather Jackson won for the women in 14 hours, 24 minutes and 47 seconds, the second-fastest time the course has ever seen. Snagging the second Golden Ticket on the women’s side was Spain’s Ragna Debats in 14 hours, 55 minutes and 27 seconds. Rounding out the podium was Boulder’s Riley Brady with a time of 15 hours, 29 minutes and 17 seconds. In the accompanying 100k race, Rajpaul Pannu from Denver, Colorado, won in a course record time of 7 hours, 15 minutes and 53 seconds. The women’s winner and second overall was San Francisco’s Anna Kacius, who also set a new course record in 8 hours, 13 minutes and 7 seconds. Check out the full 100-mile and 100k results here.

In Bell Buckle, Tennessee, at Big’s Backyard Ultra, Harvey Lewis from Cincinnati, Ohio, set a new backyard World Record of 108 yards (450 miles) with the assist from Ihor Verys from Chilliwack, British Columbia, who notched 107 yards (445.83 miles). Poland’s Bartosz Fudali also bested the previous world best, set earlier this year in Australia by 1 yard, finishing with 103 yards (429.16 miles). Peruse the full results here.

Sky Valley, Georgia, played host to the Sky to Summit 50k on Saturday, October 28. Caroline Moore from Jacksonville, Florida, won in 6 hours, 6 minutes and 28 seconds. Brooke Jones from Atlanta, Georgia, was the women’s runner-up in 6 hours, 25 minutes and 17 seconds, and rounding out the podium was Maria Martinez Ferrandiz out of Alpharetta, Georgia, in 6 hours, 33 minutes and 22 seconds.
