Even as the temperatures drop, we’re finding fast times in our Ultra Weekend Recap. There was a new course record at the 21st Hellgate 100k in Virginia, and we’ve also got results from a 50k in Ohio and the 42nd Tallahassee Ultra Distance Classic in Florida.
At the 21st celebration of the Hellgate 100k in Fincastle, Virginia, Brian Culmo from Salt Lake City, Utah, won and set a new course record by 3 minutes in 10 hours, 10 minutes and 38 seconds. Aaron Slabach out of Blacksburg, Virginia, wasn’t too far back clocking the fourth-fastest time ever in 10 hours, 25 minutes and 59 seconds. Third place went to Jordan Chang, also of Blacksburg, in 11 hours, 8 minutes and 59 seconds. Shannon Howell of Simpsonville, South Carolina, ran the eighth-fastest time the course has seen in 13 hours, 2 minutes and 22 seconds. Runner-up honors went to Jennifer Mawn hailing from Golden, Colorado, with a time of 13 hours, 43 minutes and 23 seconds. Laura Davis of Henrico, Virginia, rounded out the women’s podium in 13 hours, 59 minutes and 58 seconds. Dive into the full 100k results here.
Lore City, Ohio, hosted the Bigfoot 50k on Saturday. Olivia Watson from Bar Harbor, Maine, won in 5 hours and 55 minutes. Maggie Malley out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, came in second place in 6 hours, 4 minutes and 48 seconds, and Katie Claiborne of Brooklyn, New York, secured third in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 43 seconds. J.R. Luyster from Charleston, West Virginia, won the overall title in 4 hours, 39 minutes and 17 seconds. He had a good gap on second-place finisher Uriah Yoder of Warsaw, Ohio, who came through in 5 hours, 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Third was Mike Cooper from Malta, Ohio, in 5 hours, 6 minutes and 13 seconds. Read the full results here.
In Florida, we found results from the 42nd Tallahassee Ultra Distance Classic 50/50 also on Saturday. In the 50k, Ryan Woodward from Pensacola, Florida, was victorious in 4 hours, 31 minutes and 9 seconds. Nick Ochran of Panama City Beach, Florida, was in hot pursuit in 4 hours, 50 minutes and 1 second, and Ethan Money out of Cochran, Georgia, took third in 5 hours, 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Tallahassee’s Jenny Early won for the women in 5 hours, 5 minutes and 25 seconds. Second went to Karla Hash, also from Tallahassee, in 5 hours, 41 minutes and 12 seconds, and rounding out the women’s podium was Sue Cottrill of Panama City, Florida, in 6 hours, 34 minutes and 57 seconds.
