Vegas Color Rock Trail 50K

The Vegas Color Rock Trail Races take place along the Bitter Springs Backcountry Scenic Byway. The Bitter Springs Backcountry Byway takes you back in time to the pioneering days of the wild west! The Byway crosses an ancient and deserted track, the Old Spanish Trail first traveled by Spanish explorers in 1776. The Byway continues on into the colorful and mysterious Muddy Mountains, land of mystical desert mountain-scape, an historic wagon road, extraordinary rock formations, an intermittent spring, hidden valleys, a primitive dam, bighorn sheep and wild horses. Colorock Quarry, a contributing inspiration for the race's namesake, is a defunct sandstone quarry. In 1983, the area was explored for gas and oil, but none was found. Now only remnant remain to sit quietly among towering sandstone and limestone cliffs on the fringe of the Muddy Mountains Wilderness Area.
