WELCOME to the Painemeister "Backyard" 100 Weekend!

Welcome to The Painemeister "Backyard 100" Weekend by Northfield Tough, a weekend of fun for ultra runners, Norwich students and cadets, and the community and kids of Northfield. No matter what your skill level, we have an event that will challenge you physically and mentally -- all while having a good time running a "good times" loop with with a fun, supportive community.

We have 4 different events:
-- The Painemeister 100
-- The Painemeister 100-mile team relay
-- The Community Fun Run
-- Kid's Fun Run

With the exception of the Kid's Fun Run, each event builds on-top this incredibly simple proposition: can you complete 1 Painemeister -- a 2.1 mile loop with 884 feet of ascent and descent -- within 1 hour.

And if so, how long can you sustain this simple 2.1 mph effort?

All race proceeds go to support Northfield Tough, a 501(c)3 non-profit charity on a mission to increase the mental and emotional strength and resiliency of kids and teens by helping them Do Tough Things.

The FULL Painemeister -- America's toughest 100?

The "Queen" event: the FULL Painemeister 100, an individual ("solo") event that consists of 48 loops, 100.8 miles and 42,441 feet of elevation ascent and descent.

Like a Backyard Ultra, each participant has 1 hour to complete a Painemeister Loop. Unlike a Backyard Ultra, each Painemeister Loop is nearly 1,000 feet of ascent and descent per loop (884 feet to be exact) and over 2.1 miles. There is no official finisher until reaching the finish distance of 100.81 miles, after completing 48 loops in 48 hours—climbing and descending 42,441 feet. Few 100-milers in the US have more elevation gain than this event, making it truly unique. Each finisher will get a Painemeister belt buckle and Oktoberfest Painemeister mug.

Why take on this challenge?
-- Because it's simple: just 2.1 miles every hour!
-- No need for heavy packs -- you get an "aid station" at the end of each loop!
-- Because it will be fun: community vibes, cheering squads, music and camaraderie at the end of each loop
-- Because it will test you more than simply physically, but MENTALLY! How deep can you go inside yourself to finish?
-- Did we mention that if you finish, you will have climbed more vert than any 100-miler in the US!
-- Because it's there, and YOU CAN DO TOUGH THINGS!
