The Next Loop: Endurance Series - Pinnacle Mountain

What Is The Next Loop?

The Next Loop Endurance Series is a loop-based endurance running event designed for every type of runner — from first-time 10K participants to seasoned marathoners, ultra runners, CrossFit, Hyrox, and tactical athletes.

You’ll run a 3.1-mile (5K) trail loop, starting a new loop every hour on the hour.

After each loop, you decide:

  • Run another loop
  • Or stop — no penalties, no DNFs
  • Every completed loop counts.

⏱️ How Scoring Works
This event uses a simple, transparent scoring system that rewards consistency, pacing, and endurance.

For each loop:

  • Time starts when the loop begins
  • Time stops when you cross the finish line
  • That loop time is officially recorded
  • Your overall score is calculated by combining the times of every loop you complete.

There are:

  • ❌ No penalties for stopping
  • ❌ No missed-cutoff failures
  • ✅ Only completed loops counted. This allows athletes at every level to compete meaningfully.

Pinnacle Mountain State Park – Kingfisher Trail Area The Next Loop Endurance Series at Pinnacle Mountain State Park features a scenic 3.1-mile (5K) trail loop designed for distances ranging from a single 5K up to 50K. The course utilizes runnable sections of the Kingfisher Trail area, winding through forested terrain with gently rolling elevation and natural dirt surfaces. Participants return to the same centralized start/finish area each loop, where a fully stocked aid station, crew access, and personal staging area are available every 3.1 miles. This loop format simplifies fueling, gear changes, and pacing strategy while maintaining a true trail-running experience. The terrain is predominantly dirt trail with occasional roots and uneven footing typical of Arkansas park trails. Elevation changes are moderate but steady, creating a course that remains highly runnable while still providing enough variation to reward smart pacing over multiple laps. Estimated elevation gain/loss per 3.1-mile loop: approximately 125–185 feet of climbing and descending. Over longer distances, cumulative elevation becomes a meaningful endurance factor without approaching mountain-level difficulty. The course is intentionally designed to be welcoming for newer trail runners tackling their first 10K, half marathon, or 50K, while still offering experienced runners a consistent and well-supported endurance challenge.
