The Next Loop: Endurance Series, Lake Carl Blackwell

What Is The Next Loop?

The Next Loop Endurance Series is a loop-based endurance running event designed for every type of runner — from first-time 10K participants to seasoned marathoners, ultra runners, CrossFit, Hyrox, and tactical athletes.

You’ll run a 3.1-mile (5K) trail loop, starting a new loop every hour on the hour.

After each loop, you decide:

  • Run another loop
  • Or stop — no penalties, no DNFs
  • Every completed loop counts.

⏱️ How Scoring Works
This event uses a simple, transparent scoring system that rewards consistency, pacing, and endurance.

For each loop:

  • Time starts when the loop begins
  • Time stops when you cross the finish line
  • That loop time is officially recorded
  • Your overall score is calculated by combining the times of every loop you complete.

There are:

  • ❌ No penalties for stopping
  • ❌ No missed-cutoff failures
  • ✅ Only completed loops counted. This allows athletes at every level to compete meaningfully.

Lake Carl Blackwell – Shredder’s Gulch Loop The Next Loop Endurance Series at Lake Carl Blackwell features a scenic 3.1-mile (5K) trail loop designed for distances ranging from a single 5K up to 50K. The course utilizes the runnable Shredder’s Gulch trail system, offering a mix of lakeside views, wooded sections, dirt trail, and open grassy stretches typical of central Oklahoma terrain. Runners return to the same centralized start/finish area every 3.1 miles, where a fully stocked aid station, crew access, and personal staging area are available each lap. This loop format simplifies fueling, pacing, and gear changes while maintaining a true trail-running experience. The course features gently rolling terrain with good footing and minimal technical sections, making it approachable for newer trail runners while still providing an engaging endurance challenge for experienced athletes. Estimated elevation gain/loss per 3.1-mile loop: approximately 110–150 feet of climbing and descending. Over longer distances, this steady elevation adds to the endurance challenge without making the course overly technical. The Lake Carl Blackwell venue offers a supportive, community-focused atmosphere ideal for first-time trail runners, distance progression, or experienced runners looking for a consistent and well-supported loop endurance event.
