Coos Bay, OR

The Elliott State Forest is a 93-year-old, 91,000 acre state forest in Coos and Douglas County, Oregon. Despite its vast size and rich history, the ESF remains relatively unknown to even local endurance athletes -- hopefully this event can share some of its beauty with the world.

There are 20- and 33-mile options. The longer one is a figure-8 shape; the shorter route is a straightforward loop. The routes were chosen to give runners access to filterable water from the Millacoma River at mile 12ish (both routes) and 24 (33 miler only). The 20 miler has an approximate elevation gain of 2400 feet. The 33 miler gains 4100 feet. 100% of the route surface is gravel, fairly compact and small and runnable. You certainly won't need poles; road shoes vs trail shoes is up to personal preference (and maybe checking the forecast).
