Sybil Ludington
Sybil Ludington Historical 50K, the oldest 50 km race in the United States, returns as Putnam County celebrates the 250th anniversary of the US.
The 50K will return to the original route starting just south of Carmel and finishing in Carmel. The VFW will host pre and post race.
There will be a relay for 2 runners. The fun part is you can choose how often to swap, from quarter miles, to 15K straight per person.
The course starts at Meadowlark Dr/Rte 6 and finishes on West Rd near junction with Rte 52 in Carmel and the VFW Hall. The relay starts at the Sybil statue and also finishes on West Rd for a distance of 50K. Both events travel a single loop which follows essentially the route ridden by Sybil on the night of April 26, 1777 as she rode to rouse her father's militia against the British. The route comprises country roads and some dirt roads.
