Sheriff's Shootout
Saddle up and get ready to throw down—The Sheriff’s Shootout is back for its second wild ride in the rugged high desert of Montezuma County, Colorado. When the clock strikes High Noon, the lawmen and outlaws of the trail running world will toe the line for a gritty endurance showdown through canyon country. With dramatic views of Mesa Verde and the imposing Sleeping Ute Mountain, this lap-based ultra isn’t just a race—it’s a true test of grit, spirit, and stamina.
Set on a rugged one-mile loop, the Sheriff’s Shootout dares runners to complete as many laps as possible within their chosen time limit—6 or 12 hours. But don’t let the short distance fool you: each lap packs a punch. Steep ascents test your climbing legs, rocky descents rattle your knees, and the terrain keeps you on your toes from start to finish. From each high point, you’ll be rewarded with wide-open vistas of the Southwest’s most iconic landscapes—stark desert cliffs, piñon-juniper woodlands, and those timeless Western skies.
The course is designed to bring the action close to camp, with the main aid station and crew area accessible every mile, making this race as crew-friendly as it is runner-tough.
