Mount Disappointment Mountain Race
The Mt. Disappointment Mountain Race is a classic Southern California trail challenge set in the heart of the Angeles National Forest, beginning near the historic Mt. Wilson Observatory and winding through some of the San Gabriel Mountains’ most spectacular terrain. Runners can choose between two unforgettable distances: the 25K with approximately 3,800 ft of elevation gain and the 50K ultra featuring roughly 7,000 ft of climbing spread across rugged singletrack, steep fire roads, and scenic ridge lines. These courses are designed to test both your leg strength and mountain savvy, with relentless climbs and technical descents that provide a true mountain running experience amidst towering peaks and shaded canyons.
The 25K course delivers a bold punch of vertical right out of the gate—rewarding runners with sweeping views and a sense of accomplishment as they climb toward Mt. Disappointment and loop back through diverse forest trails. For those hungry for even more adventure, the 50K prix-fixe ultra takes you farther into the wilderness with extended sections on historic trails like the Gabrielino, Colby Canyon, Strawberry Peak, and the unforgettable final ascent up the Kenyon Devore Trail to Mt. Wilson.
