Ultramarathons of any distance are not easy.  The distance alone makes the race a challenge.  But each ultra typically has a unique challenge or feature that makes it memorable and gives a greater sense of satisfaction upon completion.  Ours is the weather.  Early August in Virginia is typically hot and humid.  So while this course is flat, and offers great footing, it isn't easy.  Be prepared to sweat!

The course produced the fastest 50K times, for both males and females, in 2014 in the USA.  Michael Wardian - 3:10:26 and Gina Slaby - 3:39:26.

The course is flat and fast and is 99.8% dirt and is a rails to trails course.  There are a few road crossings that are monitored by crossing guards.

Cash prizes and course record bonuses are available. as well as 5 aid stations (start, finish, and 3 on course).

This event will be held in-person in 2021 unless any of the current Virginia guidelines change.  Expect modifications to on-course support and food provided due to COVID-19 precautions.
