The Calico Centennial Celebration (C3) explores the mysterious North Muddy Mountains of the Greater Las Vegas Valley. Located approximately 40 miles north of Las Vegas in the Moapa Valley, the North Muddy Mountains is a place of wonder and mystery, an area of outrageous geology and colorful Mojave Desert habitat. These folded and faulted lands are dominated by a thrust fault of gray limestone over Aztec sandstone. Purple and white mudstone hills and gypsum bearing soils of brown and red hues are present in the lowest elevations. A geologists’ playground, areas of exploration include The Bowl, Weiser Valley, Matterhorn, a defunct gypsum mine, and what I call “dinosaur back ridge”.  Expansive views of Valley of Fire can be admired from a section of the course.  Wildlife abounds including Desert Big Horn Sheep, Desert Tortoise, Wild Horses, Jackrabbits, and Red-Tail Hawks. Come experience the mysteries of the North Muddy Mountains!
