The Bellingham area has long been considered a trail paradise for those of us who run trails here. Many lowland trails are accessible year round for running, and local trail routes vary from flat and non technical to steep and quite technical. In short, there is something for every level of trail runner.
Hamster Endurance Running, a local 501c3, has created a Women’s Trail Running Retreat, to be held September 15-19 of 2016, here in Bellingham. The retreat will offer trail technique, nutritional support and advice, pre and post run yoga and self care seminars, and gear demos. This retreat is designed to help every level of trail runner, from absolute novice to experienced, gain confidence and skill in a supportive and fun setting.
The retreat staff includes:
- Local running legend Krissy Moehl, with over 50 first place trail ultramarathon finishes. Her new book “Running Your First Ultra” was published in 2015, and she directs the local Chuckanut 50K. Krissy will be our head trail coach.
- Local Iyengar Yoga instructor, Ingela Abbott, with 40 plus years experience teaching Iyengar Yoga, which focuses intensely on body alignment and form. She’ll be leading pre and post run yoga sessions, with appropriate poses for every participant.
- Local professional runner for La Sportiva, Maria Dalzot is the 2014 Trail Half Marathon National Champion, and represents the U.S. at several international championship events. She is also a Registered Dietician and will join us with trail wisdom and sound nutritional advice.
- Kerry Gustafson has extensive training in Massage, Kinesiology, and Athletic Training, and will be sharing her wealth of self care knowledge and serving as our Athletic Trainer.
- Kelly Krieger is the Race Director for Hamster Endurance Running, a Bellingham based 501c3 organization since 2012. Her experience organizing and directing events will ensure that this retreat is top notch.
- Diane Ripper is a Sports Hypnotherapist, helping athletes to sharpen their mental
game and achieve personal goals.
In addition, the retreat will host several gear and equipment demos with local businesses aimed at helping women choose the gear they need to support their adventures!
The retreat will be held in a large, communal house, with a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after the day of running! We’ll have local talent creating gourmet meals, using fresh and organic ingredients.
