Results from Saturday’s 39th Quad Dipsea lead our North American Ultra Weekend Recap after a rather light holiday race calendar leading into a busy final month of 2022.
Nick Handel from San Francisco, California, runner-up at the 2021 Quad Dipsea, ran 4 minutes faster to claim the title at this year’s race. His time of 3 hours, 55 minutes and 40 seconds is the eighth-fastest time in course history. I ran 4 hours, 15 minutes and 4 seconds to finish in second and Bentley Regehr out of Mammoth Lakes, California, moved up one spot from last year to finish in third in 4 hours, 20 minutes and 45 seconds. Emma McCune, also of San Francisco, took the women’s title in 4 hours, 48 minutes and 7 seconds, followed closely by Kristina Randrup out of Seattle, Washington, in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 32 seconds. Sophia Steffens from Oakland, California, rounded out the podium in 4 hours, 58 minutes and 30 seconds. Full results here.
Up the coast in Washington, at the Ghost of Seattle Marathon 50k, Dana Morse from Seattle won the women’s race in 5 hours, 11 minutes and 9 seconds. Another Seattleite, Tally Williams-Gurian, was the runner-up in 5 hours, 16 minutes and 11 seconds, and Courtney Creek of Walla Walla, Washington, finished third in 6 hours, 33 minutes and 29 seconds. For the men, Jon Robinson also of Seattle took the title in dominating fashion in 4 hours, 1 minute and 56 seconds, with Seattle’s Stephen Brown finishing second in 5 hours, 1 minute and 20 seconds, and Daniel Bucci of Tacoma in third in 5 hours, 11 minutes and 6 seconds. At The Stuffed Turkey Endurance Races in Granger, Iowa, Martha Brokowska of Chicago, Illinois, was the women’s 100-mile champion and only female finisher in 27 hours and 38 minutes, and Taylor King from Des Moines, Iowa, won for the men in 21 hours, 1 minute and 47 seconds. In the 50-miler, Rachel Serkasevich of Rochester, Minnesota, won in 11 hours, 19 minutes and 52 seconds, and Cory Rose of Boone, Iowa, was the overall champion in 9 hours, 59 minutes and 17 seconds.
