Kettle Moraine Endurance Runs
We kick things off in La Grange, Wisconsin, for the 28th running of the Kettle Moraine Endurance Runs (100-mile, 100k, 50k and 38-mile ultramarathon distances). There were 137 runners who crossed the finish line in the 100-mile race to earn their Kettle Moraine buckles. First-place overall honors went to Reese Slobodianuk, who set a new course record in 14:15:22. Slobodianuk took nearly an hour off the previous course best which had stood since 2009. Brandon Talisesky was the second man across the line in 17:06:55. Dustin Parish finished third (18:28:42). Emily Muhs (19:43:54) earned the win and finished fifth overall in the women’s race. Lindsey Duffield (21:48:43) was runner-up, and Mary Kronable rounded out the female podium in third (22:04:19).
Rachel Ragona won the women’s 100k and finished fourth overall in 10:50:04. Taylor Slade took the men’s 100k title in 9:42:32. In the 50k, Evan Perigo won for the men in 4:27:43, and Allison Moran finished first female and tenth overall in 5:45:56. Richard Oakford was first overall in the 38-mile race (7:06:54). Courtney Cilio won the women’s 38-miler in 8:42:45. Full results from all four distances here.
Laurel Highlands
Our second stop takes us to Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, for the Laurel Highlands 70.5-mile and 50k ultramarathons. Deanna Doane set a new women’s course record on her way to winning and placing third overall in the 70.5-mile event (12:51:20). Doane became the first woman in the race’s 46-year history to finish in under 13 hours. Kaylee Frederick also ran under the previous CR, finishing second female and fifth overall in 13:12:09. Amy Stulman (15:47:14) was third. Blake Furman won the men’s contest in 12:23:36. Jesse Erwin came in second (12:34:03), and John Dragon (12:55:43) took third.
Brandon Fogarty won Saturday’s 50k race in 5:00:13. Adam Creveling finished second male in 5:25:40, and Amos King claimed third (5:37:37). Holly Benner won for the women and finished second overall in 5:20:28 (fourth-fastest course time ever). Zoe Fortier was the second female and sixth overall across the line in 05:56:27. Highlands Sky
Next, we head to Davis, West Virginia, for the 24th running of the Highlands Sky 40-mile race. This year’s event had 160 official finishers, paced by men’s winner Aaron Slabach in 5:59:29. Caleb Bowen finished just a couple of minutes behind in second (6:01:46). Logan Kerby (6:07:36) completed the podium in third. Jessie Wingo took the women’s title in 7:26:45. Katherine Thompson finished second (8:04:20), and Kathryn Van Orden (8:09:53) placed third. Full results here.
Twisted Fork Trail Festival
Our final stop takes us to Park City, Utah, for the Twisted Fork Trail Festival, where runners had 13 hours to navigate a 68k course with over 6,100 feet of elevation gain. Careth Arnold won a tightly contested women’s race in 6:37:19. Sarah Cummings finished less than 2 minutes back in second (6:39:07). Lauren Puretz (6:42:35) earned third place. Adam Loomis was victorious in the men’s race, crossing the line first in 5:25:20. Grant Barnette finished second (5:38:25), and Gavin Prior finished just one second behind in third (5:38:26).
