We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and spent some time outside. And for everyone who completed an ultra this weekend, congratulations. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature results from California, North Carolina, New York and New Jersey. Let’s see how the weekend unfolded.
We begin in Mill Valley, California, for the 41st running of the Quad Dipsea (28.4-miler), where 265 runners earned an official finish. In the men’s race, Nick Handel won for the third consecutive year in 3:47:09, taking over a minute off his 2023 finish and running the second-fastest time in race history. Nolan Hosbein finished in second (4:15:07), and Matthew Mitchell (4:22:56) took third. In the women’s race, Sylvie Abel missed the course record by a mere 3 seconds, winning in 4:38:36 and finishing sixth overall. Ruby Lindquist claimed second (4:51:38), and Zuzana Trnovcova (4:53:00) rounded out the podium in third. Full results here.
Heading east, we visit Ellerbe, North Carolina, for the Magnum Track Club’s 22nd annual Derby 50k. There were 75 runners who completed the course on Saturday, with top female honors going to Michelle Gray in 4:58:36. Amy Scott finished just 15 seconds behind in second place (4:58:51), and Taylor Doktycz (5:40:10) completed the women’s podium in third. On the men’s side, Joel Shores shattered the course record by over 14 minutes, taking the overall win in a blistering fast 3:14:45. John Dallas placed second with the third-fastest course time ever (3:29:43), and Edward Plante (3:54:11) finished third. Full results here.
Our next stop takes us to New York for the Prospect Park Track Club (PPTC) Endurance Fest (50-mile and 50k), where runners tackled a 3.33-mile loop course through Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Beginning with the 50-miler, results show that AJ Torres took home the win in 6:45:46. Chris Calimano finished second (6:53:30), and Adrian Fernandez (6:55:15) came in third. Emma Pile finished first female and seventh overall in 7:35:12. Holly Chase claimed second and eighth overall (7:46:47), and Greta Kjellquist (7:47:08) took third and placed ninth overall.
Dropping down to the 50k distance, Jacqueline Moruzzi crossed the finish line first for the women, winning in 4:18:35 and taking eighth overall. Eileen Laverty finished second female and ninth overall (4:20:51), and Madison Philips (4:28:21) placed third and tenth overall. In the men’s contest, Harrison Mann ran a new course best, winning in 3:40:07. Ryan Shanley finished second (3:51:06) and Daniel Kotzen (3:58:13) ran to third. Full results here.
We round things out in West Orange, New Jersey, for the Squatchy Leftovers 50k trail party, where Cory Fleming earned the overall victory in 3:57:51, the second-fastest time in the race’s four-year history. Craig Winters took second (4:09:16), and Suhail Gurm (4:27:23) finished third. Lauren Longfield won the women’s race for the second year in 4:40:00. Longfield placed sixth overall and now owns the two fastest course times. Eve Campeau finished second (5:00:18), and Lydia Yates (5:40:52) crossed the finish line in third. Full results here.
